Discovering Slovenia in following way might be something different and very interesting. Dolenjska region is located on SE Slovenia and it is accessed very quickly from highway A2 (Ljubljana-Zagreb). The region is mostly covered with small green hills and small villages. For centuries it is usual in Slovenia that such hills are covered with vineyards on sunny sides.

Dolenjska region hides many nice places not far from the highway A2 Ljubljana-Zagreb. One of them is a romantic small city with no high buildings, located on a tiny island on lazy Krka river, not far from Otočec and some Thermal spas. The Kostanjevica Monastery (est. 1234) is very close to the town. And you can also visit Pleterje Monastery (est. 1403).

Cruising through small villages on Dolenjska part of Slovenia can be fun and interesting. You can find many inns and restaurants. One such pearl is “Vinski dvor” run by the Deu family for about century. Architecture from 17th and 18th century hides also wine cellar for many tastes in which they mature the wines from their own vineyards. Marshal Tito was a connoisseur of good things and he visited this house several times.
River Krka is one of the most beautiful slow rivers in Slovenia. On the small island on the river stands small romantic castle Otočec, always kept in good condition and with classy restaurant and hotel.
you want to rest and relax before or after a long ride for a day, two, or more. Or maybe some day you will wish to come back with your friends or beloved one, or with your family…
Mother Nature blessed this small part of land with good soil and nice climate. And people living in these small, cosy hills thanked the nature fort his gift with their great respect and hard work. The name of the region is Brda, sometimes Goriška Brda, because Gorica (Gorizia) is close.

When you will be riding and discovering Karst, we can recommend you to visit “Hiša posebne sorte”.. This is Sorta family restaurant with a hotel in the middle of beautiful Karst nature, just a few hundred metres out of village Kordeti and surrounded by meadows, fields and forest.
If you wish to experience the many times awarded chef, you have to visit Hiša Franko and allow Mrs Ana cook for you. And you should taste Mr Valter’s wines and chesse selection too.
During your exploring of Ljubljana, the European Green Capital 2016, you might wish to overnight or to have a good meal, both for very reasonable price. In such case my recomendation would be “Tratoria AZUR”. It is less then 3km from the very center of the city.
The old typical Karst’s village house had been beautifully renewed. They offer excelent food in romantic ambience. On 1st floor they have guest rooms. So, if you wish to eat well, drink excelent wine and overnight in village silence, this should be one of the best spots.
